FRIENDSHIP
Such love I cannot analyze;
It does not rest in lips or eyes,
Neither in kisses nor caress.
Partly, I know, it’s gentleness
And understanding in one word
Or in brief letters. It’s preserved
By trust and by respect and awe.
These are the words I’m feeling for.
Two people, yes, two lasting friends.
The giving comes, the taking ends.
There is no measure for such things.
For this all Nature slows and sings.

Beautiful poem, GJ. So true. I feel that as I get older, I cherish friendship more. I appreciate gestures of kindness very much. I’m glad you are my friend.

PS. I just got a copy of The Giver by Lois Lowry from the library. I was trying to remember where I’d seen who else was reading it … it was you! Looking forward to it.

I really liked the book – talked a lot to my husband about my response to it. I don’t read much science fiction, which I think is its genre, so I was interested in what made it appealing to me. I will like to know what you think.

Ah friendship! This poem reminds me to put C.S. Lewis’ “The Four Loves” on hold at the library.

I have not even read all of that book, but I think it is on my shelf. Thank you for that reminder!
