“When I was a child people simply looked about them and were moderately happy; today they peer beyond the seven seas, bury themselves waist deep in tidings, and by and large what they see and hear makes them unutterably sad.”
― E.B. White

Oh my. What a remarkable quote.

I have thought about this concept for years. For most of history people had no idea what was happening far away. They only had to cope with what was happening nearby. Which is often bad enough, but it doesn’t compare to the knowledge burden of the grief of the whole world..

Some days I go into the pool of tidings nearly up to my neck. 😦

True in E.B. White’s day and sadly even more so now.

Do you know from which work this quote of E.B. White comes?
I find it haunting…but the photo is lovely.
