I’m relieved that below is not the bad place which I had been warned about in childhood as well as later, much later. This image is so positive compared to popular others here. In the East Christianity may seem harder, but it actually feels brighter, especially when I hear statements like the one above. Thanks for putting it out there.

As the Psalmist says, “If I make my bed in hell, You are there.” I have read more than one holy elder mention that verse, being comforted by it. Of course, if He is there, it’s no longer hell as we “know” it.

I didn’t know anything about this guy until just now. He wanted scripture and religious teachings to be accessible, not in Latin. I had no idea that Russian wasn’t used in liturgies and church writings until the 19th century. A major figure he was! And very wise. I’m going to look for more on and by him. Another guide.
