THE PRAYING MANTIS
From whence arrived the praying mantis?
From outer space, or lost Atlantis?
I glimpse the grim, green metal mug
That masks this pseudo-saintly bug,
Orthopterous, also carnivorous,
And faintly whisper, Lord deliver us.

I had to look up orthopterous and went on to learn more about the praying mantis which apparently has been introduced into B.C. to control grasshoppers.
I’ve never seen one. They are said to be hard to spot. You got a great shot of one.

Exactly. Ogden Nash is always right on.
I recently saw a video of a man giving one a drink of water from a bottle cap or something equally small. Who would think to do that? But he drank it!
