“Push back against the age as hard as it pushes against you. What people don’t realize is how much religion costs. They think faith is a big electric blanket, when of course it is the cross.”
-from The Habit of Being: The Letters of Flannery O’Connor
I love The Habit of Being. It's a fascinating look into one writer's life and thinking–and you realize that for all her humor and absurdities, Flannery O. was a very serious person indeed.

I love this- it's got to be the biggest issue outside of the classroom with kids at school. Will look out for the book.

The cross. That says it all. I need to get this book. I recently reread a couple of stories from A Good Man is Hard to Find. I don't always get her stories but I really want to.

What tangy food for thought. What will it mean to “push back” today, I wonder…
